Knock-Off Sofas

I was looking through my bookmarks a few days ago and I re-stumbled across this company, Custom Sofa Design.

I am OBSESSED with this Kentwood Sofa, with a starting price at $799. So tempting! Wouldn't these be gorgeous in a pair, flanking a dramatic black fireplace?



Does anyone have any experience with this company? There are some testimonials here and some information about their construction.

The Coat Closet/Armoire That Almost Was

Strangely, our house here in Delaware has zero closets on the first floor. No coat closet. Nothing.

I contemplated buying this armoire/hutch from Craigslist to use as a make-shift coat closet. I ended up passing on it because the bottom two decorative moulding panels were smaller than the top ones and the proportions were driving me crazy. Plus, the price was a little steep for me.

I had planned on painting it and replacing the glass with mirror, for some extra sparkle and so you wouldn't be able to see the coats/stored items.

Even though we're moving in a few months, I'm still contemplating the idea of an armoire turned into a coat closet. (I'm sure I'd have plenty of other things to store in the actual coat closet, if we have one. Paint and tools come to mind) It would be easy to find an inexpensive armoire on craigslist and just add two wooden cups and a closet rod dowel cut to size, if there wasn't a rod already.

I would take any of these...

Tufting On the Arms

I saw this chair at CC today, with fabulous tufting on the back and the arms...


And I quickly thought of these chairs, which are, incidentally, never that far out of my mind.

I'd love to dedicate some time today to finding an inexpensive version of this lovely chair, but it's not gonna happen. Anyone else up for it? Copy Cat Chic?

Channel Back Chair...

This vintage channel back chair was my favorite price (F-R-E-E) at the furniture auction last week.


It is really well built and has the softest down cushion imaginable, which my very pregnant body appreciated after a long day at the auctions.


The fabric is in bad shape though, so new upholstery is in the chair's not-so-distant future. Trouble is I can't decide whether or not to ditch the channel design. Would you believe that I couldn't find a single channel back chair in my design files? Obviously this style is not super en vogue, but can it still be considered chic?

Either way, I want the new vibe of the chair to be modern and spunky. I'm hoping for something as cool as this red-trimmed striped number from Erinn Valencich.


What say you? Rock the channel or go for a straight back?

I think this Shamrock table from Target could, with a little ingenuity and elbow grease, turn into something like this $500 table from Oomph.


Also, I love this Carnation Table. Just sayin.

Pier 1 Side tables

I recently had some store credit at Pier 1, so I went in looking for some accessories and came out with a pair of black side tables.



They were on clearance for $40 each. And I love them more each day. They are the perfect size for my sofa and the wall space I had to work with.

I'm totally crushing on the teeny tiny tufts here in this Celerie Kemble bedroom. So delicate and feminine.

Skirted Console Table

When I grow up, I want to be my mother. She is amazing in every sense of the word. Would you believe me if I told you she whipped up this skirted console table for me in no time flat with little more than an old bookshelf, an iron and some staples?



I bought the ikat fabric for, no joke, $5.99 a yard!! It was a steal at this fabric store in Mesa, AZ, though I think they may be a national chain. It is a great weight, so if you're looking for some ikat upholstery fabric, this one would be a good option.

And, yes, that IS an 80lb marble parrot on my table. Don't you have one?

Aluminum Accent Tables

I fell in love with Pottery Barn's recycled aluminum accent table when I first saw it in their store months ago. I can't remember the original price, but it was more than I wanted to pay - a couple hundred for sure.



I forgot about it for a while, but then rekindled the love when I spied it (or something similar) in this room designed by Brooke Giannetti from Velvet and Linen. I think the table looks great in this room.


Sadly it is no longer for sale on PB's website. But as luck would have it, these nice knock-offs are now available at Pier 1 (though they're not yet on the website - must be new).


While not cheap at about $150 each, the price is at least within reach and I'm sure they'll go on sale at some point.

Gray Linen Storage Benches

I made a late-night run to Target last night to pick up a couple picture frames for my above-the-sofa-art and what do you think I spied in the clearance section??

My favorite gray linen storage ottomans marked down 50% to $39.99!


I was so tempted to buy a pair of these for my girls' room to put at the foot of their twin beds. I think it would be adorable to add some ribbon trim in a fun, punchy color.

There were still four benches left at my neighborhood store, so I decided to sleep on it - but I'm sure they won't last long at that price!
