Cool modern gifts for the hard to impress

From the very cool store, Mocha. Here are some of my favorites for Christmas.

I've had my eyes on these nesting mixing bowls for awhile!
A ceramic notepad

They also have these in white! Soooo cute and kids would love them

Adorable pot holders!

This piece of notebook paper is actually a tea towel
This is to scale, it's a teacup stool!

There more online at Mocha.

A home with clean Scandinavian design but with personal touches life and travels

Scandinavian decor is a look I seldom dislike, as it follows one of my major decorating mantras, which is to keep your possessions edits to things that are functional and beautiful, and/or sentimental. I thought this home blended my whole decorating philosophy beautifully!

What do you think?

A very elegant house tour for you on this Friday

I haven't posted a house tour in awhile, which I always enjoy, and I hope you do as well. This is the DC town home of furniture designer and decorator Darryl Carter, whose motto is "less is more." As opposed to accumulating "stuff" as years go by, the contents of the home have been cut in half over the last several years.

I think this kitchen is great. It has a mix of clean modern lines, but with some cozy elements, like the antique Italian étagère and the wooden bar chairs.

I don't like scrubbing tubs, so one is enough for me, but I do like the 18th century secretary in the bathroom.

I can't wait to have my own huge wooden table full of character.

I am not a fan of zebra rugs, or cow rugs personally, but I do like the long bench, the antique Carlton House desk (so unusual!), and I love the shutters throughout the home.

Beautiful Carpeted Rooms!

Carpeted rooms aren't normally featured here on Decorology, as I tend to have a penchant for hardwood floors. However - the folks at Fun on the Floor have lots of pretty and inspirational home carpet ideas. I could see why one would want carpeting in a bedroom, den, or child's playroom, and it looks like they have a lot of modern and chic options. Their photos are really gorgeous too, which scores major points with me! How about you guys? Do you have carpeting around your home?

Love the high white ceilings!

...what a great rug pattern
